Tabbed Windows
EmEditor uses tabbed windows similar to many tabbed browser applications. Opening multiple documents in one window and jumping between them is fast and easy. For instance, drag and drop the tab icon to switch the document position, or use the mouse middle button to close a tab. Moreover, it is convenient to switch between the tabbed window interface and the single window interface by selecting or deselecting the Enable Tabs command on the Window menu. This command enables the tabs, if disabled, or disables the tabs if already enabled. When the tabs are enabled, all currently open documents are displayed on a tab menu at the top of the window. Only one EmEditor icon will be displayed on the Windows Task Bar.
The Tabbed Window feature includes a context menu. Right-click on the tabs to view the context menu. To have multiple sets of tabbed windows, create a New Group. To specify how tabs are arranged, right-click on the tabs, and select any option under Arrange Tabs by. You can also select Customize Tab to access the Tab tab of the Customize dialog box. You can also access this tab by clicking Customize under the Tools menu, and selecting the Tab tab.

Examples
There are many various ways you can format, and interact with, the tabs in EmEditor. Here are some of a few:
- To move easily from one document to the next, you can select the option, Use Mouse Wheel to Select. Then when you move the mouse pointer over the tabs, and use the mouse wheel, you scroll smoothly from one document to another.
- To switch between the tabbed documents in order from left to right, or right to left, using CTRL+TAB, or CTRL+SHIFT+TAB respectively, deselect the option Switch to Last Used Document for Next Document Command.
- To switch between the active document and the last viewed document, (rather than the next document or previous document); select the option Switch to Last Used Document for Next Document Command.
Drag and Drop
There are many ways to drag and drop in EmEditor. If you select a text in EmEditor, and drag and drop to another location, it will move the selected text to the other location. You can also copy the selection to another application supporting drag and drop. Many applications including word processors, web browsers, and e-mail software support drag and drop. By default, the text will be moved if you move text within the same EmEditor window, and copied if you move text to another window. However, you can change this behavior by pressing CTRL to copy or SHIFT to move when you drop the text.

Examples
If you drag the EmEditor icon on the left top corner of the screen to another application, the active document will be copied or opened with the other application. For instance:
- If you drag the icon to Desktop, the active document will be copied to the Desktop.
- If you drag the icon to a web browser, it will be opened with the web browser.
- If you drag the icon to a message window of Outlook, it will be opened as an attachment.
- When two or more documents are opened in one group of EmEditor, if you drag one tab and drop to another location within the same tab bar, EmEditor will change the order of the tab.
- If you drag one tab to outside of the EmEditor window, EmEditor will create a new group with the dragged document.
- If you bring the separate tab to the original tab, the two tabs will be combined.
