Binary Editing
Binary (ASCII View) and Binary (Hexadecimal View) are available encodings in EmEditor, which enable you to edit binary files. Up to 248 GB (or 2.1 billion lines) may be opened in binary files, if viewed in the specified encoding. Double-click on the current encoding status bar at the bottom right of the screen to change the view. In the Binary (ASCII View), null characters are shown as reversed @ marks.
When you open a binary file, a message box appears with four options:
- Open as Binary (ASCII View)
- Open as Binary (Hexadecimal View)
- Select Encoding from List
- Continue Opening as Current Encoding
The message box also displays the warning that:
The file will be corrupted if you continue editing and save the file as the current encoding.
It also lists the Current Encoding. Select an option and click OK; or click Cancel.
