Yes, it's the latest version, and the line numbers are visible. It used to work exactly as you described, but at some point it began to behave this way.

Just before the cursor enters the section that shows the line numbers, it changes into the backward mouse pointer, and when I try to put it into the number section, it hops to the outer margin of the emeditor window. It only happens on one PC, so I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Windows.

It is acting like the left margin does in word, as described in this link below, instead of the way it is supposed to work, not sure if there is some way to clear out something from the registry, or anything that would let me start from scratch and get it to work right again.
