    If cheking checkboxes in Tools -> Customize -> Status -> Number of words, Number of Characters, Number of Lines – there are shown only zeroes in the statusbar:

    0 characters | 0 words | 0/…lines

    not depending on file opened now in the window

    These are the character/words/lines in the selection only. Can you try Select All (CTRL+A)?
