It would be nice to see the number of characters or bytes for the current selection in the status bar. Maybe this text

17.2 KB (17,647 bytes), 502 lines.

could change to (for example)

0.0 KB (70 bytes), 3 lines selected.

when I’ve made a selection (and back to the other when I clear the selection).

Hi parameter,

Did you check Customize > Status, and check “Number of Characters” and “Number of Lines”? Then you should be able to see the number of characters and lines only when selected.

These numbers won’t be displayed unless you select text. If you need to see the number of characters in the whole document, you can select all the document by pressing CTRL + A.

Yes, that’s what I wanted.

I have a tip for offering tips :) It took me a few minutes to figure out that Customize was on the tools menu. Maybe try including “Tools menu > […]” on instructions. Like:

Did you check Tools menu > Customize > Status, and check “Number of […]
