I have been working with a 40 m. lines 6GB file for some weeks now without problems. I got “This document contains a very long line” and some other error while filtering and then I tried to close the notice. At that point it hanged and I had to terminate the program process. Since then the file would not load properly, or display that is fully loaded (0 secs remaining) while it was not, and no editing action could be done. I tried restarting the machine and reinstalling the program and changing the temp file location. Finally I can load it. I still get the long line notice. How can I find which line is very long? It would be useful if that notice could have a link directing to that line. (I do not want to sort the file).

Edit, looks like when I tried to stop a replacement dialog it all went crazy, it got stuck there and it added some long lines with blank space at the end of the file.

I get an error “A critical error occurred while operating the file”. I can confirm there is enough space in temp folder.

This issue should be fixed on v21.2.901. If the issue persists, please email me more details including screenshots, and I will let you know how to send me your sample file. Thank you,

you didn’t answer the question: I still get the long line notice. How can I find which line is very long?

I got a notice that highlighting of long lines is disabled by default. But it would be good if this notice at least told me which lines were long. Or which log file to open and find out which lines were long. Just telling me “hey, you got a long line somewhere”. Where??????????????

cannot edit my reply. But there is a way to find the longest line. Search Menu > Find Longest Line

I wonder if we can also find “second longest, third longest,” etc nth longest line. How would I do this with emEditor?

How about the Sort Longest to Smallest command? And you will see the second, third, … longest line at Line 2, 3, …

Please select Sort sub menu on the Edit menu, and then select Sort Longest to Smallest.
Alternatively, you can always select Search Commands on the Help menu to search for any command.
