I am not sure if I fully understand the discussion.
But a display of the size of the current selection in the status bar would surely be really nice !! :-)

Easy access to a future enhanced box-editing option would be nice , too
(icon in the status bar or similar).

Better would be even a:
“Search and Replace” for multiple terms

Opening very large files with EM editor is indeed very fast. However, searching GB files is not comparatively fast (20 minutes, there might be good reasons for it).
This is the major reason that a “multiple Search and Replace option” would be very advantageous.
