May I respectfully ask if there is any status update for this?

In my humble opinion, this is one of the biggest feature shortcomings of EmEditor compared to many other text/code editors, which I think is such a shame for an editor that is superior in almost all other aspects. It constantly annoys me so much to not be able to navigate source code files efficiently in EmEditor due to the lack of this commonly available feature in many other code editors. :-(

Would you please consider it again for some upcoming version?

    Excellent, you’re the best!

I’m very much looking forward to it then!

Sorry, I just saw the notice about this hidden in the “other new features” section on the website.

Never mind, will update manually then.

I’m afraid I just noticed one big disadvantage of the split window solution, and that is that it’s not scriptable/recordable to a macro, which is very handy to have instead of constantly having to do some 5-10 mouse click routine to activate it when necessary, so a custom option for it, with a configurable number of locked rows, which is in turn scriptable/recordable to a macro, would indeed be the best solution I think.

Andreas, sure, most things that are made into configurable options are “a matter of taste”. The problem arises when some peoples’ tastes are made available as options (such as yours, apparently), while others’ aren’t (such as mine in this case). The best thing would then of course be to make available options for both these tastes, which is exactly what I’m suggesting.

Adding line wrap indicators could possibly be a third taste, but from a purely objective viewpoint it’s at least not nearly as efficient a method to quickly determine the extent of the current wrapped line, since you then have to track with your eyes right and left several times for a multi-wrapped line, while a background coloring of the entire wrapped line is instantaneous and you don’t have to move your eye focus at all.

So please Mr Emura, couldn’t you consider adding a “part” for this as well?

Thanks a lot Mr Emura for adding this!

Oh, and in order to make it as flexible as possible, i.e. in order to e.g. please the opinions mentioned in this thread, I could suggest to make the number of locked rows configurable, or perhaps even more simple than that, do what I suggested above already, i.e. simply add the boolean option to synchronize the side-scrolling of split windows, and people could then split however they like and achieve this themselves, just like you originally suggested in this thread?

    Thanks for the reply!

The whole point of my request was to be able to easily see where the current wrapped line begins and ends though.

Would it perhaps be possible for you to add a “part” for that as well in that list that you just referred to?

    That would be very useful!

    Thanks for the reply!

As far as I can see though, there isn’t a way to lock the side-scrolling for the two split windows? This sadly makes it impossible to use for me, since I use files with many columns, that always need side-scrolling, and in that case I would need the column headers to move in sync when I scroll the bottom window with the contents, otherwise I still can’t know which column is which.

    Is this also possible?

Could you otherwise add an option for it?

It would be a very useful addition to this already nice split feature!

Ok, thanks, that works. It’s still not nearly as simple, intuitive and consistent as just alt+arrowkeys (or alt+shift+arrowkeys) though, so it would be great if you would consider adding that shortcut too if possible.

Yep, works for me too now, thanks!

I have the exact same problem with whole words (or ranges of spaces) being selected when you ctrl-click, and this is NOT how it is advertised in the following official EmEditor video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=k_NHzFoszcA

See timecode 1:00 to see placements of multiple carets WITHOUT any selections being made at the same time. How is this done? The video does not explain it!?

Thanks a lot for considering this, I’m really hoping to see this in an upcoming version then!

And sure, most things are probably possible to do with the excellent macro or plugin system of EmEditor, but it requires quite some work from each user (and sadly I think that very few users can trust plugin DLL:s from other users), so it would of course be better for everyone if it was implemented in the core instead.

Also, I really do think that this is a feature that would make EmEditor even more attractive to potential customers, especially since several competing products already have it.
