I understand there’s no way to highlight muli-line comments of this type at the moment. Any plans to extend the regex matching to cope with this type of format?

“Save, Load and Keep Undo Information”, and “Save, Load and Keep Undo Information, and No Prompt to Save Files” options were added to the automatic workspace. EmEditor can prompt to save workspace when it is about to exit, and the prompt dialog box can be disabled.

I saw this dialog for the first time today and would have to say I found it quite confusing, despite reading it a few times. I appreciate it can be disabled but found the number of choices confusing.

    Somethimes less is more :-)

One quick plea as the 8.00 development seems to be nearing the end.

Could we have an option to set a contrasting cursor colour for those sick people who use ‘dark’ colour schemes? As far as I can see it’s not possible to set the colour of the I bar or cursor, only the width through Accessibility Options.

I would love to be wrong though.

Thanks for the tip. I had never spotted that one either.

I checked out PopChar, and it looks very good!

Are you now satisfied with using EmEditor with PopChar, or are you still looking for a Unicode insert plug-in?

I’m pretty happy with PopChar and I even use it on OS X which already has a really good character palette.

As I use EmEditor for more and more of my general writing under Windows what I would really love to have would be a good inline spell-checker to get away from modal dialogs that get in the way.

Having stumbled across this old thread I thought I would add that for a while now I’ve been using PopChar from Ergonis Software.

It’s expensive for what it does but it does do it well and is much better than CharMap.

This isn’t specific to the beta – it’s been around for a couple of releases I think. It would certainly be nice to have it fixed for 7.00 though.

I frequently see this in things like comments where the highlight only runs from the last character out to the right of the window. It looks like strings and markers such as returns, tabs, URL are in the foreground while the current line highlight is in the background.

To change the thickness of the cursor, select Accessibility Options in Control Panel, select the Display tab, and adjust the Width under the Cursor Options. This option is applicable in Windows XP/2003/Vista. In case of Windows 2000, the cursor thickness is fixed and cannot be changed.

Thanks for that, it worked well. I can see why I had this problem now. I usually work with light text on a dark background in text editors and this makes the look thinner than when using dark text on a light background. I image this comes from the ClearType and how it is tuned?

That might require more CPU power, so I am not very positive about this direction…

Too bad. This really comes from disliking modal dialogs and spell checking works so intuitively inline. I don’t know how other users work but I don’t often check spell as I type but it is useful to just scan a document and highlight mis-spelled words.

I am not quite sure how the cursor should move. Can you please describe in more details? Thanks!

Sorry, this was probably unclear but in any case it is really minor. In all applications on the Mac and some applications on Windows (for instance text fields in Firefox) when the cursor is positioned on the last line of text, hitting ↓ will move the cursor to the end of the line. Similarly on the first line of text hitting ↑ will move the cursor to the start of the line. I like using this option and have got used to it and it probably doesn’t hurt to have it there as otherwise it does nothing. I know END and HOME do the same thing but have never got in the habit of using them.

    Thanks.

I do use charmap.exe for this currently but it would be nice to be able to just click a character to add rather than having to go via the clipboard.

I recently used a Windows text editor that would recognise file types by running a regex on the text at the start of each file opened.
This was particularly useful to me as I occasionally edit ATLAS file that do not use an extension in file names.

Can you please clarify what educate quotes or stupefy quotes mean.

Educate quotes would convert selected text such that ‘this’ becomes ‘this’. Selecting text and then stupefy quotes would convert ‘this’ to ‘this’.
