    Hi Yutaka,
    Okay.
In short, I want the candidate which is identical to the word typed to be hide from the list.(the word is hide, the list is not. but if there is only one candidate which is identical, the list is hide.)

    Hi Yukata,

I added “Automatically Hide the List when Only One Candidate is Matched” check box in the Word Complete properties Options. This allows the list disappear when only one candidate is matched.

Thank you for implying this, now the wordcomplete is much less disturbing.:-)
I don’t think “Automatically Hide the List when Only One Candidate is Matched” is an appropriate name for this function, since the list will only hide when only one candidate is matched and when the matched candidate is identical to the word typed. This might add confusion to users that are new to this function (i.e. those not following the 10 beta testing). But of course the decision is up to you.

If I may ask for more:
The original request is that I want the candidate which is identical to the word typed to be hide from the list. And when there is only one candidate then the candidate is hide and therefore since “Automatically Hide the List when No Candidate is Matched” is on — the list is hide. As you can see, in this case “Automatically Hide the List when Only One Candidate is Matched” is actually a special situation…
However I fully understand this might require some efforts in changing the structure of word-complete plug-in, and has lower priority.
Nevertheless, I’m already pretty much satisfied with the current method. 8-)

    Thanks ToadLoadin :-)
    I know there is such a plug-in.
    However, a 32bit plug-in will not work on a 64bit Emeditor.
Furthermore, I would prefer a macro if the macro can do what I want, since it saves hardware recourse.
“somethinghere” is not what I want to insert. This is just one of the situation when inserting numbers. Under the above two situation a macro should behave accoradingly to insert numbers correctly. To surpass this I temporarily enables the VirtualSpace and restores it when finished.
The problem here is when entering a start number greater than 2, the macro will stack in a infinite loop, but I can’t find out why…from I point of view, this macro should run correctly :-?

    1) I think it is natural to assume “>” should be after Find text box. What do you think, other users?

I agree it’s more natural. But for those keyboard hardcores, I think Viggen’s approach will be more efficient. I personly +1 on Viggen’s advice. After all this is Emeditor Professional 8-)

I am not sure if I understand this correctly. Do you mean Sticky Vertical mode? I don’t see the Word-Complete plug-in is temporarily turned off.

I record a demo for this.

    Hi robben,
This is exactly what I described in my post :-) As Yutaka stated, this will be fixed in beta 7.

    Hi Yutaka,

Feature request 1. I added “Automatically Hide the List when Only One Candidate is Matched” check box in the Word Complete properties Options. This allows the list disappear when only one candidate is matched.

Thanks for accepting my feature request:-) don’t knowing if this is exactly what I mean though. I will try beta 7 and comment later.

Feature request 2. I will think about this feature, but probably not in v10.

    I’ll be patient.:-D

P.S. I think the snippets plug-in should be temporarily turned off in vertical mode, just like the word-complete plug-in, as they are not functioning rightly in Vertical Mode.

    Hi Yutaka,
word-complete in placeholders works, and this is GREAT :-)
However, there is a bug in the snippets plugin:
    1. in any placeholders other than placeholder 0, typing a trigger string will replace the whole snippets with the trigger’s snippets. This is reproducible at least in C, Java and HTML. (only a certain trigger under such situation will cause this, was not able to test them all)
i.e. try this: in C, for{TAB}, and type “printf”.
in JAVA, cl{TAB}, and type “de”.
in HTML, img{TAB}, and type “html”.
if you do this, even an error will popup:
    img{TAB}, and type “input”.

    feature request:
    1. the drop down list of word-complete even popups when there is only one match and the match is exactly what I have typed.
i.e. open a blank document, type “abcd”. space. abcd again. you will see abcd is listed as a word-complete suggestion. therefore if the user wants to input an enter, he will have to do it twice. in a word, the word user has just inputed should not be in dropdown list of the plug-in. if I have variable abc and abc-1, it would be much nicer to type abc and get only abc-1 as suggestion.
    2. Get the seletion back when undo. A lot of winows apps action like that(including MS. Word and Notepad). (although I can live without that. :-) )

    Hi Yutaka,
    1.

I found a bug with the plugin. When I fill the arguments of a function or condition statement and then press “tab” key ,it doesn’t jump to the next placeholder as usual, but create a blank space after the argument

I find this too. Just a correction: a tab in placeholder creates a tab not a space.
    2. The help button on Insert Special Character does not function.
    3. Cannot change the encodings of new created document (before saving) by double clicking on the “current encoding” on status bar. (a specification maybe, but having a popup menu alerting you to save the file would be better).
    4. Open a file, change something, double clicking on the “current encoding” and choose a different encoding, the alert of “Do you want to abandon changes” appears twice if you choose “cancel”. May be the first alert should be “Do you want to save the file”?

    Feature request:
    1. The current convert selection-comment/uncomment only uses line comment. i.e. in HTML files, this command will not work. It would be better that Em automatically use block comment when line comment is not available (or ever better, auto decide when to use line comment or block comment). Even if the command is tweaked to only use block comment would be a better implementation than the current method, since line comment is quite easy to insert using vertical selection.
Of course I can always use macros or snippets to achieve block/line comment. But since you decided to put such a functionality in Emeditor core, would be better if it behaved smarter. (and from my point of view, this is not that hard to implement. Correct me if I’m wrong)
Moreover, I think comment/uncomment is not suitable to be placed under convert selection section. Normally when a user press comment while have nothing selected he is trying to comment the line…
But that might be a bit too complex for an editor’s core functionality. So all in all a better solution might be just leaving all these command totally to macros.

    2. Is it possible to add an Auto Join command besides Convert selection- Remove new lines/Join lines. i.e. If a character before/after n is a multi-byte character act as Remove new lines (no space inserted) and when the character is a single byte character act as join lines (insert space).

    Hi Yutaka,
Now the following 2 might not be a bug but a specification. Just a confirmation needed.
    1. Currently the ‘Highlight Matching Brackets’ and ‘Auto-Complete Brackets/Quotation Marks’ shares the same option right? Which means it is not possible to set to only auto-complete ‘()’ but highlight both ‘()’ and ‘{}’. In order to retain the auto-completion of ‘()’ but get rid of the auto ‘{}’, the only way is to uncheck ‘{}’ in Bracket Pairs, but this will also disable Highlight Matching Brackets and even the CTRL-] to find the matching bracket.
    2. A single highlight can only have one style (bold, underline, italic or normal), and spellchecking’s wiggly line is considered a style. So the style of the keyword will be overwrote by spellchecker’s style.
This is fine in most of the case, since spellchecker can be configured not to check keywords. But if the keywords are defined by regex, users will have to choose between canceling the spellcheck on keywords or losing the style of keywords.

    Hi Yutaka,
When using regex to find and/or replace ‘s’, Emeditor will match both TABs and SPACEs. Is this an expected behavior or a bug?

Yes, I did write a bit of my own snippets to improve my efficiency, but they are just too crudity to put here…After all I’m not a programmer (yet). Hopefully someone else will start to fulfill the library, and all Emeditor users will benefit from that. Best wishes for all Em users. :-)

    One thing more:
in html snippets, TagComplete and Wrap Selection in Open/Close Tag works just the same, except that:
TagComplete mirrors everything in tags, whilst Wrap Selection in Open/Close Tag mirrors everything in tags but the one matches “s.*”, so that

will not all be mirrored, which also makes more sense.

P.S. Since v9 has snippets enhanced, can we have a Library of snippets, so that users can upload their snippets written?

    – Vertical selection of zero width at the right of end of lines will cause the selection move to end of each line in the selection. Then typing will insert text at end of each line (even if line lengths are not the same).

This is fine and good. Can we still have the original method? i.e. when virtual space is on, it seems more logical to use the original method.

    Hi Yutaka,
    Thanks for the quick reply.

other 1. I reproduced this issue only if you select “COBOL (*.cob)” (or any configuration other than “All Files (*.*)”) in the “Save as Type” drop-down list. Next time, please select “All Files (*.*)” in the Save As dialog box, and you should see “.COB” as you expected.

That does the trick. Thanks a lot. :-D

    Hi Yutaka,
Today I try to use Emeditor 10 beta 3 in a productive environment (COBOL programming), and noticed the following bugs:
    1. TABs inserted in vertical mode remain to be TABs when “Insert Spaces for Tabs” is checked.
    2. Snippets plug-in. In any placeholders other that placeholder 0, type ‘a’, ENTER, type ‘b’, will get ‘bb’ with cursor between the 2 ‘b’s.
    3. In placeholders, the function “Automatically show the candidate list as typed” of WordComplete plug-in will not work. (“Show Candidates Manually” works fine)
    4. If cursor color is customized, the color will change on a background other than white. i.e. will set to red, the cursor is blue in theme MinimalZen. (not a big deal though…)

    A few other problems:
    1. Since the system I work with is case sensitive, I set “Default Extension” to be “.COB” (Uppercase). However, when saving, the extension is converted to “.cob” (Lowercase), which is quite annoying.
    2. In COBOL, line comment can only be expressed by “^(d|s){6}*”, any other form is illegal. This cannot be set in Emeditor’s line comment. Nor can “{SixSpaces}*”.
    3. Would you please let snippets plug-in support “nesting snippets”? i.e. in placeholder 1 of snippet 1, trigger snippet 2, when TAB after placeholder 0 of snippet 2, return to placeholder 2 of snippets 1, etc. Currently Emeditor simply ignores the triggers of another snippets in placeholders.

    Hello dear Yutaka:-)
    I have some problems here.
    1. It seems that the theme’s displaying mechanism has been changed. All my custom theme’s “Current line” property is weird. The text color in the highlighted current line is black(although it should be white as the text color of the current line is set to Transparent). i.e. try the MinimalZen theme. Since the background color is dark black, this makes the text on Current line barely visible.
This problem exists on all custom themes on my machine. However, the themes that come with Emeditor function properly. So maybe this is not a bug and just a little tweak somewhere will fix it?

    2. The macro’s recording and playback when the sticky vertical mode is on are broken.
i.e. when sticky vertical mode is on, start recording. hold SHIFT press arrow DOWN, input something. ESC. stop recording. now undo your changes, put the cursor back to it’s former position, run the macro. The macro will not input anything.

P.S. Is it possible for Emeditor’s macro to remember(or to set) the edit properties of the document? such as Overwrite/Insert mode, or whether a switch to vertical mode should be done before executing the macro, since in different environment, a same macro might not behave the same.

+1 for Hunspell spell checker. Opera browser 10 uses Hunspell as it’s spell checker engine, and it works great. It’s weird to find that while a modern browser has a spell checker integrated, my favorite editor lacks a flexible one, although it is more supposed to do so.

    Hi Yutaka,
I know it’s strange, but the Word Complete plug-in just don’t automatically show the candidate words. However the hotkey works.
I confirm the Word Complete button is pressed state, “Automatically Show the Candidate List as Typed” is also checked.
A clean install of the Emeditor 9 alpha 37 doesn’t solve the problem. The system is Windows 7 RC english 32bit.

Not sure if it’s the expected behaver…
The “Incremental Search” option in Replace dialog box doesn’t work , the option in find dialog box works OK, you type and you get the matching items, just like you type in the findbar plag-in.
Type in Replace dialog box returns nothing…

    Great work. :-)
    a small request:
Would you please add a command to move a line up and down in future version ? MS Office Word has this, with keyboard shortcut “SHIFT + ALT + UP/DOWN” . This is not something big , but quite handy in some situations.
Of course I can achieve this with a macro or “CTRL + C”/ “CTRL + V”(especially with EE 8’s ability to “CTRL + C” a line)
but this command makes text editing more visual.
