How to verify the digital signature of an EmEditor installer
This guide explains how to confirm that the EmEditor installer you downloaded is genuine and comes from us.
EmEditor installer files with the extension .msi, and .exe and .dll files published by us are always signed. When you check its signature, it should show:
Name: Emurasoft, Inc.
If the displayed name value is incorrect, or if the signature is missing or invalid, do not run the installer.
Verification steps
An EmEditor installer is valid if and only if all of the checks in the four steps are valid.
- Verify the installer file is signed by Emurasoft
- Downloads have a URL with the domain of
download.emeditor.com. They are linked in the downloads page of Customer Center. - In File Explorer, right‑click the downloaded installer and click Properties.
- Go to the Digital Signatures tab.
- ✅ A digital signature should be present.
- ❌ If there is no digital signature, the installer is untrusted. Do not run the installer.
- Downloads have a URL with the domain of

- In the Embedded Signatures list, double click the entry with name Emurasoft, Inc.
- ✅ There should be a signature entry with name Emurasoft, Inc.
- ❌ If there is no signature from Emurasoft, Inc., the installer is untrusted.
- In the Digital Signature Details window, check the status message at the top:
- ✅ There is a message like: “This digital signature is OK.”
- ❌ If the message shows “The digital signature is not valid.” or any other error message, treat the installer as untrusted.

- Under Signer information, verify the following field:
- ✅ Name: Emurasoft, Inc.
- ❌ If the name value does not match, the installer is untrusted, even if it says “This digital signature is OK.”
If signature is invalid
- If any of these checks fails for an EmEditor installer:
- The installer is untrusted. Do not run the installer as it may be malware or a corrupted installer.
- Contact us about the invalid signature.
- Go to the downloads page of Customer Center and download an installer with a valid signature.
