Today, we are releasing EmEditor v18.0.0 beta 2 (17.9.92).

New General Features

  • The new version allows you to use any encoding when opening, reloading, or saving files without first defining them in the Define Encodings dialog box. Selecting "More…" in the Encoding drop-down list box or the Reload menu will show additional encodings. The initial list of encodings can be customized via the Encoding list in the Define Encodings dialog box.
  • If Dark mode is used in Windows 10, EmEditor will also use dark colors. EmEditor displays custom bars, drop-down list boxes in the Find/Filter toolbars, text boxes, and list boxes inside dialog boxes in dark colors when Dark mode is selected in the Colors tab under Personalization in Windows Settings. Some of these colors can be further customized in the View page of the Customize dialog box. Editor view colors becomes dark colors when selecting the MinimalZen in the Display page of configuration properties.

New Options

  • Added the Enable/Disable All check box to the Define Encodings dialog box, and removed the New, Delete, Up, Down, Properties buttons from the dialog box. The Encoding Properties dialog box was deprecated.
  • Removed the Open Undefined as System Default Encoding check box from the Detect All Result dialog box.

About Store App:

In order to be compliant in the requirement where Store Apps must work in Windows 10 S-mode operations, following features are not supported in Store App versions anymore:
– Open Command Prompt
– Plug-ins not included in the app package
– Export settings into a registry
– Import settings from a registry

Store App versions of EmEditor released

Today, we are releasing EmEditor v17.8.2 for Store App. This is essentially the same version as v17.8.1 for Desktop (non-Store App) versions, but Store Apps can be downloaded exclusively from Microsoft Store. You can download Store Apps at:

– EmEditor (64-bit) Store App
– EmEditor (32-bit) Store App

Advantages of this store app over non-store versions of EmEditor:
– Installation and uninstallation is easier
– Updates are completely automatic
– As a UWP app, no changes are made to system files. Settings are stored inside the app container.
– You can install an app on up to 10 devices while signed in to your Microsoft account.
– You can install an app on Windows 10 in S mode.

Price for subscription – $19.99 USD plus taxes per year

Licenses acquired outside the Store cannot be used for the store app, due to Microsoft’s Terms of Sale. Therefore, subscriptions for this store app are sold separately from licenses for non-store apps, including desktop installer versions and portable versions. This means that registration keys that were purchased outside of the Microsoft Store cannot be used for this store app.

Subscriptions for the 32-bit version and 64 bit version are not interchangeable – a subscription for the 32-bit version cannot be used for the 64-bit version and visa versa.

As of today, we don’t offer academic licenses anymore, however you may purchase a store app with the same low price as the former academic license.

Today, we are releasing EmEditor v17.8.1.

  • Fixed the bug where the last line of each page could not be printed when printing.
  • Fixed a certain issue related to column selection searches in CSV mode.
  • Fixed a bug where importing settings did not refresh toolbar buttons.
