EmEditor Free is a free edition for personal use at home or at school. If you are looking for a fast, capable Notepad replacement, EmEditor Free is a great place to start.
It includes many of the core editing features found in EmEditor Professional, such as syntax highlighting, Find/Replace, Unicode support, and printing.
Important: EmEditor Free is for personal use at home or at school only. It may not be used in corporate, government, or other organizational environments.
EmEditor Free vs. EmEditor Professional
EmEditor Free and EmEditor Professional use the same program (the same executable). You can switch between editions at any time by choosing Help → Upgrade or Help → Downgrade.
EmEditor Free provides most everyday text-editing capabilities, but some features are not available or are available with limitations, as described below.
